2017 By-Election

A by-election will be held in the Town of Oliver to fill the seat of one (1) Councillor.  The successful candidate will hold office, along with the current Councillors, until the next general election which will be held on October 18, 2018.

Voter Information:

Who can vote?

You can vote in the Town of Oliver By-Election if you live within the Town of Oliver, or you are a non-resident property elector (you own property in Oliver but live elsewhere in BC).  The Town of Oliver does not have a voters list; instead, we use day of voting registration. 

You must:

  • be 18 years of age or older on general voting day, December 2, 2017 (born on or before December 2, 1999)
  • be a Canadian Citizen
  • have been a resident of BC for at least 6 months immediately before the day you register to vote
  • have lived in Oliver, or have owned real property registered in your name in the Town of Oliver, for at least 30 days immediately before the day you register to vote; and
  • not be disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or be otherwise disqualified by law.

Identification Requirements to Register to Vote?

Sample Identification Documents

  • Resident Electors - Two pieces of identification are required when registering to vote that provides evidence of the applicant's identity and proof of residence - at least one document must contain the applicant's signature.  If you are unable to provide proof of your place of residence, you must make a solemn declaration as to your place of residence.
  • Non-Resident Property Electors - When registering, you must produce two pieces of identification (at least one piece must have your signature) to prove identity, proof that you are entitled to register in relation to the property, and if there is more than one owner of the property, written consent from the majority of registered owners that you have been designated to vote accompanied with adequate documentation, such as a Land Title Search or a property tax notice from the Town of Oliver, proving ownership of the property claimed as the basis for the vote.
